Hope Ranch in Santa Barbara

Passing beneath the elegant wrought iron sign suspended across Las Palmas Drive, one enters Hope Ranch in Santa Barbara, certainly one of Santa Barbara’s loveliest enclaves.

The beauty of the Hope Ranch neighborhood is immediately apparent as Las Palmas Drive itself is lined with towering Canary Island date palms and overlooks La Cumbre Country Club with its shimmering lake.

The gently rolling knolls of Hope Ranch include approximately 773 private parcels totaling 1,863 acres of land, some with spectacular ocean and island views while others enjoy majestic mountain views.

The magnificent landscaping throughout Hope Ranch includes stately Oak trees, natural flora and flowering gardens.

Incorporated in 1924, the Home Owners Association at Hope Ranch watches over such matters as architectural standards, fire protection, zoning and road maintenance.

Membership in the Association is automatic with home ownership and brings many privileges: the private beach (complete with picnic tables and cabanas), tennis courts, miles of bridle paths meandering throughout the Ranch with beach access, and private security patrol services.

Every resident of Hope Ranch has a card key to the Hope Ranch Beach gate and can enjoy the beachside picnic tables, cabana with bathrooms and storage for kayaks and surfboards.

Hope Ranch beach is almost completely the private playground of the residents of Hope Ranch as it has a gated entrance and it is so far from the nearest public beach access.  There is even an equestrian trail to the sand!

There is a summertime snack shack, making Hope Ranch beach a fabulous hang out spot.

Hope Ranch Park homeowners have rejected annexation to the City of Santa Barbara, preferring instead to maintain their autonomy. As a result, Hope Ranch continues to maintain the lofty standards of suburban living which have been in effect since the developer of Hope Ranch advertised his “sun kissed, ocean washed, mountain girded, island guarded Hope Ranch” more than half a century ago.

The first of the many major estates to be developed in Hope Ranch, complete with mansions and formal gardens to rival the finest Montecito has to offer, were completed in 1925.

These estates bore the unmistakable hallmark of two of America’s contemporary architects, George Washington Smith and Reginald Johnson.

Today, Hope Ranch offers a unique combination of distinctive properties and magnificent estates.

The minimum lot size in Hope Ranch is 1.5 acres and ranges up to 50 acres, giving Hope Ranch a spacious open feeling.

Top Ranked Private School

The gorgeous 35 acre campus of the prestigious private Laguna Blanca School , serving grades 5 through 12, is ensconced within Hope Ranch. (The primary through 4th grades are located on the Montecito campus.)

Laguna’s 88-year tradition of academic excellence provides students with exciting experiential learning; LEGO, STEM, TEDx, arts and performing arts programs; and competitive athletics with state-of-the-art facilities.

With a 7 : 1 student teacher ratio, Laguna students are guided carefully through their education, with 100% of Laguna Blanca graduates attending college.

On a personal note…

My sons attended Laguna Blanca and both loved their many years there.

The following video of some of my son Jackson’s highlights at Laguna provides a sense of the community at the school as well as its excellent theater and performing arts programs.

La Cumbre Country Club

La Cumbre Country Club includes a classically designed golf course, six championship tennis courts, pool, fitness center and an excellent restaurant with fabulous mountain views.

Hope Ranch has a wonderful location within Santa Barbara with easy access to the US-101 freeway.  Downtown Santa Barbara is but minutes away and the Santa Barbara airport is only 10 miles from Hope Ranch.  Shopping, fine dining, entertainment and excellent schools, both public and private, are nearby.  Los Angeles, about 100 miles down the coast, may be a quick day trip, but feels worlds away.
